What each tool does
How this works
Every tool on this site runs entirely inside your browser, no files are ever sent to a server. Everything you add is placed locally, and the final PDF is built locally too. You can confirm this yourself by opening your browser's developer tools and watching the network tab while you use this tool.
Choose the right editing tool
Use annotations for a missing label, short correction note, callout, highlight, shape, or freehand mark. They are new page content; they do not replace existing words or create interactive form fields. If the document already contains fillable controls, use the PDF form filler so checkboxes, dropdowns, and required fields keep their intended behavior. An opaque shape is also not a safe way to hide private information because the original content remains underneath it. Use Redact PDF when information must be removed. Before saving, check each thumbnail because every annotation belongs only to the page where you added it.
Frequently asked questions
Can this edit text that's already in my PDF?
No, and this is worth being clear about. This tool adds new text, shapes, and drawings on top of your PDF, it doesn't rewrite or reflow text that already exists in the document. Changing existing text would require rebuilding the original fonts and layout, a much more involved operation this tool doesn't attempt.
Can I add more than one text box or shape?
Yes, as many as you want, on any page. Each one can be moved, resized, and styled independently.
Does my text box wrap onto multiple lines?
No, each text box is single line. For longer notes, add a few separate text boxes stacked where you want them.
How does the highlight tool work?
Highlight adds a semi-transparent colored rectangle, the same as a shape, just preset to a highlighter-style yellow with partial opacity so whatever's underneath stays readable. You can still change its color or opacity once it's placed.
Can I draw freehand, like with a pen?
Yes. Use Draw to sketch on a small pad with your mouse or finger, then place the drawing anywhere on the page and resize it.
Can I add things to every page at once?
Each item you add belongs to one specific page. Use the thumbnails, page controls, or scrollable preview to switch pages, then add what you need.
