How automatic blank-page removal works

  1. STEP 1

    Add the PDF

Drop a scanned or digital PDF into the private browser workspace.

  2. STEP 2

    Wait for detection

Balanced detection starts automatically and checks every page locally.

  3. STEP 3

    Review the selection

Inspect likely blank pages, adjust sensitivity, or keep any page that contains useful content.

  4. STEP 4

    Delete and save

Delete the reviewed selection, save the cleaned PDF, and download the new copy.

Detection checks the visible page

A scanned page can contain no selectable text and still hold an important photograph, signature, or handwritten note. The detector therefore analyzes a rendered image of each page instead of assuming that a missing text layer means the page is blank.

Text and annotations add a safety check

A page that looks empty can still contain a form field, note, link, or invisible OCR text. Those pages are marked for manual review and are not automatically selected as safe deletion candidates.

Sensitivity controls near-empty pages

Low sensitivity is strict. Balanced tolerates a small amount of ordinary scan noise. High sensitivity can classify pages with more specks or faint marks as likely blank. Ignore scanner edges excludes a narrow border where feeder shadows often appear.

Detection is assistance, not a guarantee

Faint handwriting, pale watermarks, page numbers, or intentionally empty form pages can resemble scanner noise. Always preview selected pages before deletion. For exact manual control, use Delete PDF Pages.

Designed for long scanned documents

Pages are inspected one at a time and temporary page images are released during the scan. Progress remains visible, and you can cancel a scan, change sensitivity, and run it again without uploading the document.

The remaining pages keep their quality

The final save selects the pages that should remain instead of rebuilding them as screenshots. Images and text on retained pages are not intentionally recompressed. The download is a new file, leaving the original untouched.

Understand the blank-page results

Blank-page detection is intentionally cautious. The result label explains how confidently the page can be treated as empty, while the thumbnail lets you make the final decision.

Blank

Almost no visible content

The rendered page contains extremely few meaningful marks and no safety signal that requires manual review. It is included in the suggested selection.

Likely blank

Minor noise was found

The page may contain dust, feeder shadows, or isolated dots but still appears empty at the selected sensitivity. Preview it before deleting the suggested selection.

Review

A safety signal exists

The page looks empty but contains text, annotations, or another PDF object. It is flagged for inspection and is not automatically selected for deletion.

Choose the right detection sensitivity

Sensitivity changes how much visible noise the detector tolerates. Start with Balanced, examine the results, and only move to High when ordinary scan defects prevent genuinely empty sheets from being found.

SettingWhat it is designed to detect
Low
Clean digital pages and near-perfect scans. It is the most conservative option and leaves questionable pages unselected.
Balanced
Typical office and home scans with a small amount of dust, compression texture, or background variation.
High
Noisy batches with faint shadows or many specks. Pale handwriting and light printed content are easier to misclassify, so careful review is essential.

Why blank pages appear in PDFs

Automatic document feeders can capture the reverse side of a one-sided sheet, insert an empty separator, or create an extra page when paper is pulled through unevenly. Office software may also produce a blank page after a forced page break, an oversized table, or content positioned just beyond a printable boundary.

These pages are not always truly empty. A page may hold a header, a faint stamp, invisible OCR text, or a form field. That is why the tool presents candidates for confirmation instead of silently removing them.

Improve results on difficult scans

  • Enable Ignore scanner edges when dark feeder borders appear around otherwise empty pages.
  • Compare a few known empty pages with pages containing faint pencil, stamps, or background watermarks.
  • Run the scan again after changing sensitivity. A new scan replaces the earlier suggestions without deleting anything.
  • Use the Detected filter to inspect every flagged thumbnail before applying the deletion.

Browser-based scanning and privacy

The PDF is rendered and analyzed on your device. Large documents can take longer and may use substantial memory, particularly on a phone or tablet. Keep the tab active during detection and use a desktop browser for very large scanned files. The original remains unchanged because the cleaned document is generated as a separate download.

Frequently asked questions

How does the tool identify blank PDF pages?

It renders each page locally and measures visible marks, contrast, and edges. It also checks for text and annotations before selecting likely blank pages.

Will detected pages be deleted automatically?

No. Detection only selects likely blank pages. You must review the thumbnails, mark the selected pages for deletion, and save the new PDF yourself.

Which sensitivity should I use?

Balanced is recommended for most files. Low accepts only pages that are extremely close to empty. High can catch scanner noise and faint marks but requires more careful review.

Can it detect blank pages in scanned PDFs?

Yes. Detection examines the rendered page image, so it works with image-only scans as well as digitally generated PDFs. OCR is not required.

What does Review mean?

The page looks visually empty but contains text, an annotation, or a form object. It is not selected automatically because that hidden or interactive content may be important.

Does my PDF leave my device?

No. Page rendering, detection, review, and PDF saving all run locally inside your browser.
